Magic Leap, a company based in Plantation (Broward County) and specialized in augmented reality headsets for businesses, has just finalized its latest round of financing. The amount raised is massive: $500 million, to support the launch of its latest product, Magic Leap 2, scheduled for 2022. With a valuation of about 2 billion dollars, Magic Leap joins the very closed circle of private companies valued at more than a billion dollars in South Florida.
"This investment is an important step in Magic Leap 's mission: to profoundly change the way we work," said Peggy Johnson, the company's CEO (formerly VP at Microsoft). "With a solid foundation and this new infusion of capital, Magic Leap will be able to democratize the use of its innovative products and continue to accelerate digital transformation in the corporate world."
"Since joining Magic Leap in 2020, my role has been to accelerate the company's shift to the enterprise, strengthen our technology pillars, and build a robust company that can meet the needs of many industries such as healthcare, defense, and the public sector," explained Peggy Johnson.
Today, Magic Leap employs more than 1,200 people, most of whom are based in its Plantation, Florida office.
